BORIS JOHNSON has been urged to get tough on post-Brexit trade issues relating to Northern Ireland by an expert, who has branded the current regulations a “complete betrayal” of the Irish people and accused the EU of using border disputes to suit a “political agenda”.
Jack Ross, Union Research Fellow at the independent Bow Group think-tank, has condemned the current protocol and said the arrangement threatens the Union and UK sovereignty.
He told Express.co.uk “The Bow Group was one of the few Brexit supporting organisations not to get caught up in the heady praise for the Brexit deal.
“We raised ten points of concern, and Northern Ireland was a major one.
“The Northern Ireland Protocol is not only a complete betrayal of British citizens in Northern Ireland, but it also has emboldened Republican factions that wish to break up the Union.
“As the EU has shown that they’re willing to build a border in Ireland when it suits their political agenda, why isn’t our government demanding a border that protects our citizens and our sovereignty?
